Dexter Season Finale - The British Invasion

Comments

Babette: There is still stuff for season 3. In one of my earler posts I had predicted that Doakes would die and LaGuerta would spend a lot of season 3 trying to clear his name. That might happen, though it appears season 3 will bring a new "evolved" Dexter with a new, or at least altered, code.

I agree with you that it ended a little too tidily but it felt satisfying not to have to wait to see what happens. I am still excited about a season 3 and hopefully those writers will get their act together and get creative. I would be willing to donate 25-50 bucks to the Daniel Cerone fund. I love his work and will help anyway I can.

There is a bit of a cliff hanger... what happened to Dexter's bag of knives?
You're right, Drdan. I think La Guerta may spend some time next season working on clearing Doakes' name. I'll be interested to see how that works out - if that plot line is even pursued. Will her digging bring her close to Dex? And if so, would she believe that he's a killer? Doakes was telling her that all along, but she told him that he was just being obsessive. And she likes Dex, while Doakes didn't.

I guess we'll have to wait for next season to see if any of that comes to fruition. Other than the La Guerta thing, though, I'm kind of at a loss for ideas about Season 3.

I thought about those knoves. Didn't Lila take them? I wonder where they might be? Good call, gg
I wonder too if Lt Laguerta will continue to try and prove that Sgt Doakes is not the Bay Harbor Butcher. She does have some good information that Doakes was not in Miami when some of the killings took place. But the case is closed and the Bay Harbor killings have stopped. Will this cause Dex to create a new MO for killing? If he repeats his previous MO then Laguerta might show that Doakes is not the killer. Will Dex's new code change him? No longer killing bad people but who? those that might be bad, poor drivers, jay walkers? He need to change his MO in some significant ways. And with Doakes gone who will be Dex's foil? In the first 2 seasons Doakes always kept the pressure on Dex. Who will be that person now? Laguerta? Deb? I'm wondering how Dex's new code will effect him and his victims. And how will he handle the pressure of a deeper relationship with Rita? He has no feelings or emotions and to continue to act as if he does must put him under some pressure. Not to mention that an incorrect emotional response will cause Rita to wonder about their relationship. How does he balance being with Rita and the kids with killing? It's hard enought being in a relationship with one full time job but two full time jobs?

All i have to say after 2 weeks of silence is this: The finale was well worht the wait. Lila is gone....THANK GOD! i am sad to see doakes got killed off. The Dexter/Doakes tension made the show...at least for me. I give this season a 10 out of 10 - it was brillant. Can't wait to buy it on DVD. Anyways, this will be last post for a while. Now that the season is over...there is nothing left for me to talk about.

See ya'll next season.

Cheers

I was really bummed about Doakes being killed off, too. I grew to love his character, and the tension between he and Dexter was a key plot point for me as well. I certainly enjoyed it much more than all the Lila bullshit. I do think the season was very good - it's still my most favoritest show ever - but I do hope that next season the writers put a little more work into the twists and turns of complex and shocking plot that will keep me guessing.

Until next season, K! Cheers!
Dexter changed one key thing in the very beginning of the season: his dumping ground. Now he dumps bodies along the gulf stream, which is strong enough to carry them away. Because there isn't one spot where the bodies will be piling up, he doesn't have to change other aspects of his ritual. Where he killed his victims was never discovered - unless he wanted it to be as with that copycat - so he's still safe to kill as he previously had.

One thing he'll have to be careful of now, though, is his 'sloppy' blood work. He'll have to be more careful about letting killers off the hook through his evidence since that was something he was already questioned about.

Doakes will be missed.

one thing I just want to mention. dex never had a certain kill spot as far as I can tell. he always killed in his voctims environment. thus the room looking like the inside of a plastic bag. I agree with you though that he's going to have to find different ways to get his kills besides purposely letting them off with his bloodwork. I think laguerta is going to focus on that next season.
