If/when you become pregnant, do yourself this favor:
Start putting money aside for pedicures and bikini waxes!
Don't think you're into things like pedicures? Well, first of all, you're absolutely wrong. Pedicures are fabulous. End of story. Second of all, getting pedicures during your pregnancy (especially that last trimester!) isn't only about pampering yourself (although that is a nice aspect); it's about necessity. You need to take care of your feet. You need to clip your toenails. Those things are just not so easy to do when you've got a soccer ball (or bigger!) sized belly to lean over on your way to reaching your toes. As a matter of fact it's nearly impossible. So set aside a little cash every now and then early in your pregnancy (when you can still reach your toes and bend over in general without grunting or losing your balance), and pay someone else to reach your toes for you!
Why bikini waxes? Let's put it this way. Have you ever laughed at the old joke about a big, fat guy not being able to see his own penis? You may not be laughing so hard when you realize that the only way you can see your own 'bikini zone' is by standing in front of the mirror naked. And if shaving blind isn't an appealing thought (for clumsy people like myself, it's quite a terrifying thought!), you may want to go get a bikini wax. There are also 'bikini trimmers' out there -which are basically beard and moustache trimmers in pink cases marketed toward women- but I got one of those, and it cut me anyway. I'd recomend the wax. It lasts longer anyway.
There's my advice. Heed it well. I speak from experience.
I had another OB appointment today. It was actually my first in about 10 weeks. There was such a lag because of all the crazy moving between here and Fayetteville and back here. The doc asked when my due date was, and I told her September 13th. She looked surprised. "You hardly look pregnant." That, of course, is completely untrue. I look quite pregnant, but apparently I don't look as big and fat as I could, or something. She also suggested since I've gained 'only' 19-20lbs that I eat more food. I really don't think I need to, though. I eat just as much as I feel like eating, and it's not like I've gained way too little weight. Perhaps if I'd only gained 10lbs, I might be more concerned about getting my weight up, but I've gained almost exactly as much as I'm supposed to. Plus, part of the weight a pregnant woman is supposed to gain is in fat stores. I figure (and the few books on pregnancy that I've read agree) since I started out my pregnancy a little on the heavy side, I don't have to worry about gaining those extra fat stores. I already had 'em! It was kind of nice to be told to gain some weight (even though I don't plan on following that advice). As a chubby girl, that happens so infrequently. ;)
