Today I went out shopping with the wives of two guys Joe knows from back in Texas. Actually, I know them both too from when we were all at DLI.
Basically, the reason I was asked to go is because one of these women is Korean and speaks very broken English. Her name is Eun-seun. The other woman, Alejandra doesn't speak Korean. At all. I was to the 'the bridge,' if you will. Unfortunately, I haven't spoken to anyone in Korean for over two years, (other than to ask for more red pepper paste, or to ask if I could get some more water please.) and my Korean speaking skills were seriously lacking.
But I digress.
When Alejandra and Eun-seun came over, Lucy was still sleeping so I asked them to come in and have a seat. I told Alejandra earlier that Lucy was asleep, and she said they would come by and didn't mind waiting until Lucy woke up before we went to the market. Eun-sun seemed uneasy. I figured she was just shy. She spoke enough English to say that she was afraid of my cats.
I'm going to take this moment to break from my story and explain something. My cats are sweet, harmless, little house cats. Like extremely sweet. Just look how sweet! I know Damien's face is a little cut off at the bottom, but I assure you that it is neither hideous nor frightening. My other kitty, Regan, while not so cuddly with the baby, is just as sweet with adults who know better than to pull on her tail and ears.
So Eun-seun tells me that she's afraid of the cats, and I tell her that they're nice and not to worry. She sat on the couch, and my friendly little buddy, Damien, hopped up on the arm of the couch on the opposite end of the couch from her. Eun-seun screamed. Not a little startled yelp, but a terrified shriek. She also jumped out of her seat and tried to move as far away from my very confused and scared little cat as she could. I tried to get the cats away from her, and get her settled down a bit, apologizing the whole time.
Joe came home right about then which thankfully drew the cats' attention away from the new people in the house - for a few minutes. I'm not quite sure how it started. Maybe one of the cats ran by her - and I don't mean brushed past her, I mean ran 4 feet in front of her, but within her view. But before I knew what happened, my house was in chaos. Eun-seun was screaming bloody fucking murder, and my cats were running about the living room in sheer terror. Damien made a break for the back room pretty quickly, but Regan didn't quite know what to do. She kept running around the living room and dining room. I tried to pick her up and take her to the back of the apartment, but she was too scared and confused so she ran away from me. Toward Eun-seun. Who screamed, and scared my cat more. Which made her run around in a panic. Toward Eun-seun. And around and around it went with me, Joe, and Alejandra trying to capture Regan, and Eun-seun screaming and scaring the living shit out of her.
It was really awful. I finally suggested that Eun-seun step out on the balcony while I corralled the Regan, and got her safely herded into our back bedroom.
I don't know how to say, "What the fuck is wrong with you?" in Korean, and I probably wouldn't have even if I did. I sure was thinking it, though. Who in their right mind is that afraid of a house cat? I mean, really!
I'm just glad that we actually have the money for this surgery, which is going to cost us upwards of $1000. It's already stressful enough knowing that my cat is ill, but I might have a nervous break-down if I had to worry about how we were going to get the money to pay for surgery!
I'll be sure to update as soon as I know how surgery went.
Show us the first thing you see in the morning.

Our cats are really strange sometimes. Tonight I was sitting in the tub, when I heard Damien scratching and crying at the bathroom door. I called for Joe to open the door for him so he could come in and hang out with me. Just about as soon as he got in there, he hopped right up on the edge of the tub and started drinking the bathwater! Gross, I know, but it was also so weird that we just sat back and watched him do it for a while. Actually, at the very beginning, I tried to stop him, but he was so persistent about drinking that warm bathwater, that I gave up and let him. There was no soap in the water anyway so he wouldn't get sick. Joe took some pictures of him sniffing around and drinking the water.
Soon after, Regan came in and walked around on the edge of the bathtub, too. She didn't drink any water, though. She pretty much just pranced around looking gorgeous for the camera.
Poor Regan and Damien. They both had rough days yesterday. Both of them had vet appointments. Regan, because she had (and still has) something strange going on with her butt! =P And Damien, because he was due for shots. Regan had to go to a different vet because the people at the Ft. Meade clinic couldn't see her quick enough. That vet is going to be our new vet. He was so nice and gentle with Regan, and while he did acknowledge that she was heavy (by calling her a little chublette - which I thought was funny and cute), he did not go on at length about how she was too fat, and that she needed to lose a lot of weight, nor did he scold me about feeding her too much.
Anyway, there was really no reason at all for me to write this blog considering the only person who will undoubtedly read it was there with me all day yesterday, and already knows how much I love my cats and how pleased I am with our new vet. I guess I just wanted to take the opportunity to reiterate how much I adore my cats, and to show off how damn cute they are.
See?
